Basevolt vs Airtable

These are not the same category. Airtable is a hosted database with a friendly front end; Basevolt is a local front end for a database you already own. Pick based on whether the data can live on someone else's servers.

Different problems, different tools

Airtable is excellent when the base is the source of truth: a content calendar, a CRM, a launch tracker that a whole team lives in. You get hosting, permissions, forms, and an API without setting anything up.

Basevolt assumes the source of truth already exists — the Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, or D1 database your app is talking to. It does not replace that database. It adds the screens you need to run it, and it runs on your machine instead of in someone's cloud.

Airtable changes; check their docs before deciding. Rows marked with a check on the right are places where Airtable does more than Basevolt.

When Airtable is the better choice

  • The base is the product and the team works in it directly.
  • You want forms, public interfaces, or a no-code app builder.
  • The data is not tied to a database you already run.

What switching costs

No data migration. Basevolt sits beside the database, it does not take it over.

There is no export step

You only switch if your app already has a SQL database. Basevolt connects to it; Airtable data would have to be synced separately.

Team workflows stay out of scope

If several people need logins and permissions, Basevolt is not that product and will not pretend to be.

Setup is a connection string

Then an afternoon of views — most of which an agent can configure over MCP.
